Editor’s Note: This election profile from Russell Norris came in later and was unable to be included as part of the main election article in the Oct. 9 edition. It will appear here in identical format.

We reached out to all the candidates for Vauxhall town council, and Russell Norris was the last of the eight candidates to respond. Election day is Monday, Oct. 20.

Russell Norris

Current Occupation: Retired Teacher

Previous council/committee experience: “Having been on council before, I am aware of its needs. I’ve become better informed regarding political change, grants and financing available to assist with the needs of our community. I’ve had opportunity to be involved with local and provincial sub-committees such as Municipal Planning, Taber and District Housing, ORRSC, and Hwy 36.”

What got you interested in municipal government?

“My name is Russ Norris and I am running for re-election to the Town of Vauxhall Council.

Vauxhall has been home for over forty years. My wife and I raised four children here, I taught school here for twenty-six years; it is a community and people I deeply care for.”

“I’m running for Council because, as I said above, I have deep roots here and desire to see our town thrive. I have several years of experience, I believe I have vision along with good ideas and know how to implement them. I have much to offer. Besides that, I have enjoyed the meetings as well as being involved in the community! I would consider it an honour to serve our town once again.”

Why should people vote for you?

“I believe it is important to not only look after the business of our town but also promote business and tourism for a wider area, working with the Town of Taber, and the MD as we also share roadways, water treatment plants, etc.”

Some of the most important issues we face are:

1). maintaining our infrastructure, keeping up with future needs of our aging sewer/water system,

2). Promoting and maintaining support for our present businesses as well as attracting new ones,

3). Maintaining a fair tax base,

4). Developing new residential lots in town, and

5). Maintenance of our excellent recreational facilities.
