WeatherFarm site launched by CWB PDF Print E-mail

Since its inception two years ago, the Canadian Wheat Board’s (CWB) WeatherBug network has grown by leaps and bounds, exceeding the organization’s original projections and proving prairie farmer interest in the weather has not clouded over.
Now the CWB has launched a new producer-oriented website, known as WeatherFarm, so any producer can access detailed local weather information gathered from the CWB’s 700 on-farm monitoring stations that make up the WeatherBug network.

Some in southern Alberta, home to Canada's main sugar beet growing and refining industry, welcome the booming world sugar prices which mean potentially-greater profits for Lantic Sugar and higher returns for growers plagued by weather-related difficulties.

Grain exports to exceed expectations PDF Print E-mail

Grain exports for the CWB’s 2009-10 crop year are expected to exceed mid-summer projections by two million tonnes, which should help drive export numbers to the highest level in 10 years.
In the CWB’s annual Grain Marketing Report, the grain-marketing organization has set an export target of 18.7 million tonnes.
This comes close to matching the target set in 1999-2000, when total exports reached 19.2 million tonnes.

The federal government’s notorious “gag order” preventing the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) from promoting a single-desk marketing system has been reinstituted after the Supreme Court of Canada denied the organization leave to appeal in a decision reached last month.
The ruling ended an ongoing legal battle between the federal government and the grain marketing agency regarding a federal government attempt to muzzle the organization over any communications not reflective of government policy.
