This year’s top sugar beet producers for the Vauxhall area were announced at the annual sugar beet banquet held on Friday night. The 2011 harvest saw unrivaled numbers in the annals of sugar beet production. “We’re above average this year for yield, and the quality was a record,” said Gerhard Wall, field man for Lantic Sugar. “We had a bit of a challenge getting started, because of the wet conditions — it was a slow spring. But we got heat through the summer and the fall which gave us good results.” The harvest season was a successful one, according to Wall. “Harvest went well, basically just one interruption for wet conditions, but otherwise, it was a good year.” Vauxhall Top Ten 2011 Sorted by quality and incentive adjusted yield per planted acre.
