In less than five months, local residents will be heading to the polls to cast their votes in the 2010 municipal election.
At least it would be the hope that local municipalities will see some kind of election.
While it might be an easier process to elect councillors by acclamation, not to mention a less-costly route, it kind of flies in the face of democracy.

The world is still fixated on the Gulf of Mexico, and the crisis that has gripped the area for well over a month now.
The oil spill, thousands of feet underwater, has been spreading fear, as well as oil, as coastal regions brace for an impact which could change the very way of life for thousands upon thousands of people.
Solutions for the problem at the British Petroleum site have been tested, tried and so far, largely have failed.

Tax credits sound like a good idea whenever the government or the opposition starts suggesting they have a plan for a new one.
Unfortunately, a number of these so called tax credits generally go by the wayside long before they are voted in by the government. Even the tax credits which do become official generally have enough fine print attached to their use that the average person does not bother looking at them when it comes time to do their taxes.

Graduations come and go every year, and each and every time, you hear the same thing — how this grad class is the most special ever.
Certainly, every graduating class at a smaller school, such as Vauxhall, has its positives and negatives, and things it will be remembered for.
But now, with high school soon to be a distant memory for the current crop of Grade 12s, the challenge for them becomes much, much more real.

Last week, schools throughout the region held various activities and celebrations to mark Education Week in the province. Education comes in many forms in Alberta, from public to private from home schooling to alternative education programs.
Over the past decade, school districts have worked hard in the region to address the needs of local students, including developing alternate programs for students to complete their high-school education outside of the traditional school settings.
