We are writing an open letter of thanks on behalf of our family to the town of Vauxhall.
Our son, Ben Dartnell, was fortunate enough to be accepted at the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball. He has spent the past three years as a student athlete, living, going to school, playing baseball and participating in Vauxhall community life.
He was welcomed into your homes and into your community. The hospitality and friendship he received from the people of the town of Vauxhall and surrounding area was second to none.
We can not mention everyone by name, as so many people had an impact on Ben’s Vauxhall life, but there are a few we would like to name.
He received a quality education provided by the staff of Vauxhall High School and led by principal Ojala. Thanks to Shannon for answering all our questions and keeping us informed. She was our lifeline.
The baseball program has an outstanding group of dedicated staff including Coach Mac, Coach K, Gord, Krush and Christie. Ben’s time at Vauxhall depended on the support and guidance of each one of them. Opening your home to strangers is not for the faint of heart, and our gratitude and thanks are extended to his billet families, the Farnsworths (2008/09) and the Ojalas (2009/10 and 2010/11).
Ben was fortunate enough to be adopted by another family during his time in Vauxhall. Thank you to the Enns and Meier families. Besides Sunday dinners and crib games, this extended family taught Ben the value and rewards of hard work, including helping out during calving season, learning to brand calves and driving a combine.
We know Ben will always cherish his time spent in Vauxhall and the many friendships he will carry with him the rest of his life.
It was not easy sending our son away at a young age but we quickly learned he was in good hands. From our family to the Vauxhall community — thank you! You have a wonderful community and we wish you continued growth and prosperity.
