Political developments in Edmonton in recent weeks following the surprise resignation announcement of Premier Ed Stelmach, closely followed by two cabinet ministers who will be seeking the leadership of the PC party, will probably overshadow any legislation planned for the spring session of the legislature. Little Bow MLA Barry McFarland isn’t expecting a grueling session, outlining where the focus is likely to be. “I think a lot of them are going to be of an update/house cleaning nature, making current bills. Some call it evergreening — I call it updating. There’s a number that are like that.” With the PC party awaiting the expected departure of Stelmach and gearing up for a leadership race, perhaps as early as summer, the spring session could be interesting, admitted McFarland. “As far as a free-for-all, who knows — it’s probably going to be quite a show.” |
