Vikings plunder way to tournament final

Posted on December 18, 2013 by Vauxhall Advance

It was a loss once again to the Stirling Lakers in hardcourt competition for the Vauxhall Vikings boys basketball team, but for head coach Daryl Johnson it was encouraging to see the team be able to adjust on the fly.

The Vikings made their way to the tournament championship final in Picture Butte over the weekend against Stirling.

Blown out earlier by the run-and-gun Lakers, it was a much closer contest this time around.

“We only had one practice in-between those two games and we talked about making adjustments and just stuff we did on the whiteboard, and they executed really well. It was a two-point game until eight minutes left,” said Johnson. “Their fast break wore us down but we executed well up until then. It’s good to have those types of games where it shows the guys they need to improve and work hard in practice if they want to beat these types of teams.”

Earlier the Vikings streamrolled to the final with blowout victories  over host Picture Butte and Fort Macleod.
