Friday night, the top-10 growers for the Vauxhall region were announced at the annual beet banquet. This year, Laus Stiekema took top honours with a crop of 28.12 adjusted tonnes per acre on 142 acres. D. Wolosuk Farms Ltd. came in second at 28.07 on 194.3 acres, while J. Wolosuk Farms Ltd. was third at 27.92 on 146.1 acres. In fourth place was Brudey Farms Inc., at 27.88 on 126.7 acres, while S and K Farms Ltd.’s adjusted tonnes per acre count of 27.51 was good enough for fifth. At 27.41 on 287.5 acres, D. Klemen Farms Ltd. came in sixth, followed by Ben Janz, whose 260 acres netted him an adjusted tonnes per acre of 26.94. Vanderhoek Farms Ltd. (26.19 on 65 acres), Bernard Stoesz (26.12 on 64.5 acres) and Vic and Michael Van Dyk (25.89 on 221 acres) rounded out the bottom three of the top 10. Due to the lateness of the 2009 Harvest season and many of the difficulties encountered by producers, this year’s adjusted tonnages are subject to a degree of change, although rankings will remain the same. |
