The holiday season is one of togetherness and family, and one that is celebrated far and wide.
In Vauxhall, the holiday spirit is evident with events such as the many school Christmas concerts and the annual town-wide carol festival. Each and every year, a wide range of Christmas-themed events are held in this community to mark the occasion, one which has different meaning and different significance for many. But one thing that is for certain is the fact the holiday season is indeed special. It is a chance to get together with friends and family, some of whom only get to see each other during the holidays every year. It is a time to look back on the previous year as well, and remember the good fortune that came our way. No matter how you look at it, and 2009 was a challenging year, we are lucky to live in a country like Canada, and a community like Vauxhall. That said, we must also take time throughout the holidays to consider those who do not have the opportunity to take time off this 2009/2010 holiday season. There are many police officers, doctors, nurses and essential government employees who have to work through the Christmas season, all in an effort to keep the rest of us safe. Then, of course, are the Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan, who rarely, if ever, get a break from the dangerous situation they are embroiled in overseas. Whenever we sit down with our families this holiday season, it is imperative to remember those whose holiday seasons may not be as joyous. With that in mind, it is good to see Taberites continue to support initiatives like the food bank’s Christmas hamper campaign, and other similar holiday-related projects in town. After all, holiday spirit can be measured in many different ways, and we all have our part to play. |
