Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m., a RCMP police vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle rollover collision, on Highway 36, approximately 10 kilometers north of Vauxhall. The sole occupant, a RCMP constable who was operating the police vehicle, had just entered into an attempt to stop a vehicle on suspicion the driver was impaired. The police vehicle is a fully marked police car assigned to the Taber/Vauxhall RCMP detachment. Damage to the police vehicle is estimated at $30,000. The constable, who has approximately 24 years of service, was taken to hospital for examination and received only minor injuries. The operator of the other vehicle did not stop at the scene and is being sought. An investigation is ongoing into the collision, as well as the identity of the other driver. Anyone who may know of the incident or anything of the other driver is asked to contact the RCMP at 403-223-4447. The RCMP is also seeking assistance in a theft case. Sometimes between Feb. 19 and Feb. 21, a thief or thieves broke into a garage workshop located in the 600 block of 1st Avenue in Vauxhall. Those responsible stole a Dewalt planer, a Black & Decker belt sander and a red-coloured jig saw. The items were likely loaded into a truck waiting in the alley and driven away. Total value of the loss is estimated at about $700. Those with information on the crime are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by text message to CRIMES (274637). |
