The following are selected briefs from the July 13 meeting of M.D. council.
Video equipment approved
To keep up with technology demands for additional video equipment presentations, council approved a motion to purchase wall mounted Consumer Grade 55-inch televisions for both sides of council chambers for a quote of $6,849.90 from Matrix Audio Video.
Road request approved
Council unanimously passed a request for improved access to NE-23-7-14 and SE 26-7-14 from the east on Township Road 74 from Secondary Highway 877.
Council agreed to low-grade road in the area for 2011.
Surplus truck donated
Council passed a motion to donate its surplus 1989 Ford F550 fire truck to the Cameron East Hutterite colony for $1 after the recent delivery of the new fire truck for the Hays Fire Department.
The decision was based on previous precedence of providing surplus fire trucks to area Hutterite colonies for their use.
Project approved for culvert replacement
Council passed a motion based on dirt availability to approve a project for culvert replacement for a local road over a BRID drain northeast of Vauxhall.
M.D. of Taber was given three options and approved the second one, which replaces existing culverts and flattening the side slope with no guard rail for bridge file 77017. The total cost is estimated at $313,190, with contingencies factored in. The M.D. will pay $186,120, with Alberta Transportation picking up $127,070.
Calcium cost waived
Council approved the cost of calcium incurred by Wolosuk Farms Ltd. be waived due to the closure of Township Rd. 14-4 due to the previous spring storms. Wolosuk noted in written correspondence to council an unusual amount of traffic has occurred, which caused large amounts of dust from the closure on Range Rd. 155 due to the closure, which is north of the farm’s home quarter.
Tender approved
Council passed a motion to approve the low tender for Brooks Asphalt & Aggregate Ltd. for Grassy Lake paving for 2010. The lowest bid was $219,951, which was $19,705 over original estimates.
The bid was broken down in three components for paving of south Grassy Lake roads ($181,606), fire hall paving ($15,170) and Grassy Lake playground paving ($23,175).
Highway improvement project approved
M.D. council passed a motion for the allocation of $203,855 from municipal reserves towards the M.D. portion of improvements to Secondary Highway 521.
The project includes reclaiming the roadbed and reshaping of the gravel road utilizing the Re-Call Gravel Systems method of pulling shoulders and reshaping the highway, while incorporating a product called Gravellock on the road.
The product is for soil stabilization that the County of Forty Mile has been using with success according to M.D. correspondence.
The cost is based on an 11-metre-wide finished surface, with the project estimating to take 10 days to complete the 18.2-kilometre project.
The cost-share project with other governing bodies has the M.D. of Taber incurring 36.36 per cent of the total costs.
