Vauxhall mosquito Jets have been trying to spruce up its hitting heading into Tier I community baseball provincials this weekend in Spruce Grove. The team competed against a Lethbridge Little League All-Star team and the top-ranked mosquito competitive level team recently in preparation for provincials.

It is always a wild card with how baseball provincials pan out, no matter what your ranking. Running into a hot pitcher, nerves or ice cold bats can weigh down even the strongest of teams.

The Vauxhall Spurs go into districts this weekend not knowing if it is Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde who is going to show up. Spurs concluded its last week of American Legion “A” regular season play last week and showed the same up-and-down play the squad has displayed all season, to finish with a 12-16 record in northern division play and 17-20 overall. Spurs swept the lowly Great Falls Stallions last Tuesday before the team got swept by Havre North Stars last Wednesday on the road. Colyn Cleland finished the Stallions’ doubleheader 8-for-10 at the plate with a home run and three doubles. Ty Odland pitched a complete game in one of the Havre games and took the tough-luck loss.

Vauxhall peewee baseball Jets will be flying into provincials later this month with plenty of power in its engines after a solid 2-1 playdown this past weekend. Splitting time between Hiesler and Bawlf, the Jets kicked off its round-off with a 19-9 loss to Coronation.

The Vauxhall mosquito Jets continue to roll through Baseball Alberta playdowns. Last weekend in Sundre, the team went 3-0 to extend its round-off record to 6-0. But game one was more dramatic than the team was accustomed to, as the Jets had to hold on for a 9-8 win over Lacombe.
