It was a very successful week of hockey for the Vauxhall atom Sabres.
Saturday’s game saw a 5-3 victory over Lethbridge for the Sabres. Brandyn Howg potted two goals and Reed Odland, Hunter Johnson and Jayden Bexte all had singles. Bexte also chipped in two assists along with Jordan Kuipers. Odland and Brody Kester also had assists.
  • Sabres followed up with a 7-2 victory over Crowsnest Pass on Sunday. Brant Mack sniped the hat trick and Kevin Turner, Nicholas Zalik, Odland and Howg each had singles. Howg and Turner each had two helpers apiece with assists also going to Mack, Odland, Zalik and Bexte. Blaise Unruh was in net both games.
    PRENOVICE: Vauxhall Sabres skated to a 13-0 shutout of Bow Island on Saturday. Wyatt Broderson, Brittney Kambeitz, Brennan Kambeitz and Kaden Walburger each had hat tricks, while Gavin Kester notched a single. Kester, Scout Sidam and Brennan Kambeitz shared goaltending for the shutout.
    NOVICE: Vauxhall novice Sabres had a tie and a loss for its weekend play.
    Vauxhall skated to a 7-7 draw with Lomond on Saturday in league play. Ethan Klemen and Blake Kondor each had hat tricks and Kyle Turner had a single. Klemen, Hayden Mack, Jacob Portz and Jaegar Friesen had two assists apiece and Kondor, Turner and Ryley Plettl each had assists. Joel Portz was in net.
    Sunday’s exhibition tilt was an 18-7 loss to Lethbridge Warriors. Klemen had four goals with two goals going to Mack and a single coming off the stick of Owen Kress. Kress and Klemen also drew assists. Jaeger Friesen was in goal.
    MIDGET BOYS: A valiant comeback fell just short for the Vauxhall Sabres, as the team beat Warner 5-3 at home on Friday night in provincial playdown play, but fell a goal short in the two-game total-point series. Brett Oseen led the way for the Sabres with two goals and an assist and collected the hard hat for his play. Thomas Hudson, Trent Mathieu and Matthew Petek were the other goal scorers.
    Getting eliminated from provincial play proved difficult to keep the intensity up on Saturday in a 4-3 loss to Coaldale Cobras at home. Josh Senneker and Thomas and Jeff Hudson each picked up a goal in the contest. Dylan Howg earned the hard hat as the hardest-working Sabre.
    MIDGET GIRLS: The Vauxhall midget girls hockey team came away with a split in league play this past weekend in Vauxhall.
    Vauxhall started play Friday night with a 7-1 loss against Cranbrook despite being tied 1-1 after two periods. Erin Thompson had the lone goal, assisted by Erin Meier.
    On Saturday, the team came away with a 6-2 win over Lethbridge. Cassie Sampson led the way with two goals and one assist. Shelby Martens added two goals and Thompson and Alex Kennedy added single tallies. Thompson, Dakota Davis and Carlie Palaschak added assists. Emilia Noble was in net for both games.
    The midget girls will host Lethbridge again on Friday at 6 p.m. and play Lethbridge on Saturday at 5:20 p.m. in Picture Butte for league play.
