It was a busy couple of weeks for the Vauxhall Vikings JV boys basketball team with mixed results. The team played four league games and also added a tournament in Bassano, which allowed for lots of basketball. Vauxhall started the month with a loss to league-leading St. Joes, 66-50. Vikings were led by balanced scoring from Graeme Vanden Dungen, Josh Pepneck and Nathan Frostad, all scoring in double digits. The Vikings then played a strong game against McCoy, taking them to overtime before eventually falling 101-96 in a high-scoring affair. The Vikings were led by Dillon Burgess with 25 points and Vanden Dungen with 20. The team followed with a challenging weekend in Bassano, dropping games to Duchess and Rosemary before edging out the Brooks Composite Senior “B” team in the final game. The team once again had balanced scoring with Burgess, Graeme and Nico Vanden Dungen, Pepneck and Nathan Frostad all scoring in double digits in at least one game. This past week, the Vikings played Duchess again, staying with them for awhile before the game got away from them, resulting in a loss. On Feb. 11, the Vikings played perhaps its best game of the season, edging out another top team in its league, Eagle Butte, 65-64. The Vikings were led by Pepneck with 31 points and Frostad with 23 points, but needed good games from several players to achieve the win. The Vikings are now off for the week before concluding their regular season at home against Bassano on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. |
