Grapplers from Enchant School participated in the Friday evening portion of a Highwood tournament. John Peters at 59kg defeated Tyler Wilchowy of Hilltop in what was Peters very first career match-up. The win did not come easily however. Peters lost the first round 0-7 and came to the corner exhausted. He came back in the second round winning narrowly 4-3 forcing a third round of action. Peters stayed strong throughout the grueling third round to win 7-3 as time ran out.
Peters then lost to Jacques Meunler of Parkland 3-5 and 0-6, but Meunler had to be treated by the medical personnel for a bloody nose. Peters then got pinned by Kalon Baumann of LCI in Lethbridge in the first round but faced Tyler Wilchowy again near the end of the tournament for the fifth-place contest. Peters went into the match humbled by the difficulties he had with Wilchowy in the first match up , but he scored the first point and then put his opponent in a head and arm that resulted in a pin and earned Peters fifth place in his first tournament.
Landon Skretting at 62kg lost his first match to Jared Neville of Rocky Mountain House. The score was 3-4 in the first round and Skretting got pinned in the second. Skretting then lost to Eric Gwilliam of Memorial and also to James Baron of Wetaskiwin 1-6 and 3-6 to put him out of the tournament. Grapplers next see action at rural provincials in Lethbridge Feb. 26-27.
