New chairman for Holy Spirit school division

Holy Spirit Catholic school trustees have chosen a new chairman.

Picture Butte trustee Terry O’Donnell was nominated and acclaimed Wednesday at the board’s first meeting. Bob Spitzig from Lethbridge assumes the role of vice-chairman.

O’Donnell, a retired teacher, is entering his third term on the board. After teaching for 34 years he substituted for another seven before he became a trustee. His wife was also a trustee for 15 years. He served as vice-chairman last year, so becoming chairman was a natural step.

“It just seemed a good fit,” he said. “I had some introduction as vice-chair.”

As a first move O’Donnell proposed every school in Lethbridge have a trustee rep who attends school council meetings and brings feedback to the board. That already happens for rural trustee wards.

“We’ve got some good people,” O’Connell said, adding trustees are eager to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

Other trustees include Pat Bremner from Taber, Frances Cote from Coaldale, Judy Lane from Pincher Creek and Lethbridge trustees Danny Ponjavic, Ken Tratch, Bryan Kranzler and Garth Renyk.
