Bow River MP Martin Shields praised the efforts of constituents in assisting wildfire victims during an address to the House of Commons last Thursday.
Fundraising efforts in three communities in the riding have raised more than $100,000 for wildfire victims, according to Shields.
“It has been tough times, especially in Alberta and some of the communities in my riding, but last week, in Chestermere, Strathmore, and Brooks, the volunteers, businesses and community leaders, on very short notice, got together and held fundraisers for the toughest of people having a hard time in Fort McMurray. In just a few hours in those three communities, they filled truckloads with goods and raised $100,000,” said Shields.
Shields went on to note a swell of pride regarding the efforts of constituents in the Bow River region.
