For The Vauxhall Advance
Vauxhall Agricultural Society Bench Show winners were named at the Farmer’s Market on Nov. 22.
Overall entries at the four bench shows have increased this year. There were 122 entries, split into flowers, vegetables, fruit, handicrafts, baking and canning.
The bench shows cater to all age groups from pre-school to seniors.
Cash prizes of $8 for first, $6 for second and $4 for third were given. The Vauxhall Agricultural Society spent over $3,400 on prize money over the four shows.
The bench shows are only a small part of what the Vauxhall Agricultural Society does for our community.
There are now 10 farmer’s markets held annually from May to December. Markets have been revamped, resulting in more vendors at every market, great shopping and a chance to visit with friends and neighbours.
The Ag Society is always looking for new members. The next meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. at the library.
