The following are selected briefs from the first Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce meeting held on October 27 at the Vauxhall Legion.

VDCC Board Members

An election was held at the end of the meeting to form the VDCC board which is comprised of 11 members including a president, vice-president and secretary.

President – Joerg Klempnauer, vice-president – Samantha Broderson, secretary – Jennifer Crowson, treasurer – Jennifer Schaefer, board member – Jennifer Stuckey, board member – Peter Van Uden, board member – Petra Klempnauer, board member – Ray Coad, board member – Derrick Lillico, board member – Kris Hunter, board member – Lori Van Hal.

Presidents Report

With the first meeting as a chamber, president Klempnauer gave a few quick words on what he hopes to see accomplished with the VDCC.

“The work of the VDCC is only beginning and any further board should never forget the foundation that needs always be present to make the chamber successful — the members,” he said.

He also touched on the fact the VDCC will be focused on supporting all local small businesses in the area, no matter the size.

“We, the board of directors, must make sure to not become like some politicians promising heaven and earth before elected and forgetting those promises once elected,” said Klempnauer. “Our business is to strengthen small business starting from a one person operation and upwards.”

Membership Fee

One focus the VDCC wanted to discuss with everyone in attendance was fees for businesses who want to join.

“Our intent is to keep the chamber reasonably priced, we don’t want to price it so single proprietors can’t afford to join,” said Jennifer Schaefer.

They presented a pro-rated tier system of $45 for sole proprietors and non-profit organizations and $125 for other businesses.

The members at the meeting approved the presented tier system.
