Preparations for the Retlaw United/Union Church’s upcoming candle light Christmas service on Dec. 17 was more than expected due to a reported act of vandalism in the church.
Between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1, someone set off a fire extinguisher in the building which required a cleanup before the upcoming festivities early next week.
“Someone set off a fire extinguisher in there last week so that was a fun mess to clean up before this Christmas service,” said Coun. Leavitt Howg at the Municipal District of Taber council’s regular meeting on December 11. “They have fire extinguishers in there just in case, so there must have been a big imaginary fire.”
While RCMP were alerted of the crime, there has yet be any determination of who did it or exactly what date it happened due to the always open nature of the church.
“Timeframe no one knows. The doors are always unlocked for people to use,” added Howg.
If anyone has information on this act of vandalism, contact the Taber/Vauxhall RCMP.
The Retlaw 100 year service celebration goes next Monday at 7 p.m. with a serving of cake beginning at 6:30 p.m.
