Halloween has come early for Vauxhall-area residents — about six months early. The Vauxhall Skating Club is holdings its annual skating carnival this Friday with the theme of Spooktacular Ice Show. “We’ll be having Purple People Eaters, Grinches, skating with spider webs and the Ghostbusters,” said Kristie Habraken, president of the Vauxhall Skating Club, of some of the numerous themes spectators will get to enjoy in the presentation. There will be guest skater Jesse Smith coming to perform from the Fort Macleod Bonavista club, along with a slew of local skaters. “The largest group we have on the ice (at one time) is 16 skaters in our largest group. We’ll be looking at between 30-40 skaters for the club (performing),” said Habraken. The club has been organizing the event since mid-January, as skaters have practised their routines for just over a month in which four solos will be performed. Tristan Skretting will be singing O Canada. Raffle tables will be set up at the event with numerous items donated by community business members. “The skaters are looking forward to it. They are really excited about this year’s theme,” said Habraken. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Vauxhall arena. |
