The following are selected briefs of the Jan. 16 meeting of Vauxhall town council. Municipal Affairs Correspondence Council accepted as information a letter from Municipal Affairs informing CAO Barb Miller the follow-up audit of the province-wide review of each municipality’s 2010 Assessment Notice package has been conducted. The Town of Vauxhall’s assessment notice package has been deemed compliant with the Municipal Government Act and Matters Relating to Assessment and Taxation Regulation. AHS Contract Extension Amending Agreement Council voted unanimously to authorize CAO Barb Miller to execute the amending contract agreement with Alberta Health Services, extending the existing contract until March 31, 2013, or the execution of a new agreement. Alberta Health Services has now begun review of all pre-negotiation contract information submissions and will be requesting clarification and revision where necessary. The intent of the contract extension is to ensure that service provision is maintained should there be any delay while the new agreements are negotiated and implemented. Cemetery Society Council voted unanimously to form a short-term committee of council to collaborate with a committee of society members on cemetery beautification plans, consisting of Coun.(s) Russell Norris and Brian Hagen. Bow City Power Project Update Council voted unanimously to accept as information a monthly community update for Dec. 2011 on the Bow City Power Project. The report detailed plans for carbon capture at Bow City Power as well as the role of gas-fired power generation. Shaw Cable Notice of Discontinuance Council voted unanimously to accept as information a notice from Shaw Cable indicating the provider will be discontinuing basic cable service as of Jan. 16, 2012. Shaw Cable has been transitioning customers over to Shaw Direct, the company’s satellite division. After Jan. 16, residents must have a compatible satellite receiver to utilize undisrupted video programming. Mayor’s Caucus Meeting Council voted unanimously to table for further discussion a request proposed by Mayor Gordon Brown to attend the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association’s (AUMA) Mayors’ Caucus meeting on Feb. 15 in Edmonton, or in Calgary in June. The total estimated cost of attendance for the Feb. 15 meeting in Edmonton is $1,450. Vauxhall Fish and Game - Rod and Gun Club Request for Support Council voted unanimously to issue a letter to the Vauxhall Fish and Game - Rod and Gun Club, in support of its grant application for facility enhancement. The club is preparing to do some rehabilitation projects on the site of the gun range and is in the process of a putting together a grant submission under the Alberta Government’s Community Initiatives Program. This would include raising of the backstop berm, construction of new washroom facilities, planting of trees, installation of a water system for the trees, and other minor projects. The club has been in existence since 1969 and has 75 members. |
