As the deadline for registration nears, there is one more rallying cry being made, for residents in the Taber, the Municipal District of Taber, Vauxhall, Enchant and Hays areas to sign up for the upcoming Southern Alberta Summer Games in Lethbridge.
As of late last week, registrations were hovering just around the 50 mark, although those numbers do not include the athletes that will be on teams as tryouts and rosters are still being put together as of press deadline. Deadline to participate in the Southern Alberta Summer Games is the end of the work day Friday at the Games office.
“Our numbers are low, but we know that people are busy this time of year and there is always a big push near the deadline for registrations,” said Emily Bradbury, an M.D. of Taber regional director for the Southern Alberta Summer Games. “We always get that late push. We’ve lowered our expectations a bit (for overall numbers), but we’re hoping to get around 200 come in. ”
The M.D. of Taber contingent that will be making its way to Lethbridge will have the good news of confirming a soccer coach for every single age category that is eligible to compete.
“The community has stepped up to give us a soccer coach for each age category, which has not happened in a few years.”
The Southern Alberta Summer Games run from July 6-9. The official deadline to sign up for the summer games in Lethbridge is Friday.
Contact Courtney or Emily at 403-223-5500 (ext. 5561), or visit them in the Grey Room of the Taber Community Centre, the Games office, from 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Cost is $15 which allows you to play three sports and do five events within those sports.
