Hays hosting We Sweat Green 4-H Fun Run on Saturday

Club members and participants from throughout the Southern Region will be pounding the pavement this Saturday in Hays for the 4-H We Sweat Green Fun Run.

Christine Suominen, a former Southern Region 4-H ambassador, is spearheading the run and explained the impetus behind the idea.

“With 4-H, one of the things we’ve been trying to do across the province is to try to reach into rural demographics in order to grow our membership. So one of the ways that we, as the South Region, thought we could do that is have a fun run, and kind of bring people from all walks of life and different interests together and have some fun.”

The We Sweat Green Fun Run is an all-ages three-kilometre race, with registration commencing at 8 a.m. at the Hays Community Hall and a run start time of 9 a.m. Tickets are $20 each and include a T-shirt, sunglasses, and snacks, and are available on Eventbrite. Around 30 participants have been registered as of last week.

Participants in the fun run will be from clubs throughout the 4-H Southern Region.

“It’s kind of across the south region, from the B.C. border to the U.S. border to the Saskatchewan border, and then pretty much south of Calgary. We have organizers from Brooks and Foremost.”

More volunteers for the event are always welcome, and Suominen suggested anyone interested can get in contact with her at 587-679-5978 or via email at csuom97@gmail.com.

“We need help with registration, and maybe giving out snacks and water as well.”

Suominen is hoping to make the We Sweat Green Fun Run an annual event for 4-H members throughout the Southern Region moving forward.

“I think that’s the plan. I hope that everyone feels welcome to come out, and it’ll be fun, for sure.”
