The Vauxhall Jets mosquito baseball team rolled to three big victories in its first round-off competition of the summer. With six players from Taber and six from the Vauxhall area, the team racked up double-digit wins en route to a 3-0 record in Lacombe to being Baseball Alberta community-league play. Jets opened play with a 21-6 win over Sundre. Joel Dalton took the win on the mound, and worked two innings and struck out five. Jayden Bexte pitched two innings and struck out three in relief. Offensively, the Jets pounded out 18 hits, led by Dalton, Blaise Unruh and Hunter Johnson, who had three hits each. Reed Odland and Chase Gedny added two hits each in the win, which was called after four innings by the mercy rule. Game two was a 17-8 win over Lacombe. Unruh worked three innings on the mound for the win, as he struck out seven. Odland pitched one inning of relief and struck out one. Odland and Darian Simmons were both three for three in the game, while Bexte, Unruh, Johnson, Brant Mack and Broc Merkle added two hits each, as the Jets pounded out 17 hits. The domination continued in game three, as the Jets cruised to a 17-6 win over Satinwood. Odland took the win for Vauxhall, as he pitched two innings and struck out three. Gedny came in relief and picked up two strikeouts of his own. Offensively, Dylan Caldwell had three hits to pace the offence, while Odland, Bexte, Simmons, Gedny and Mack had two hits each. Johnson, Dalton, Merkle and Dakota Huddlestun rounded out the 17-hit parade with a hit each. The Jets now head to Sundre this weekend for the second round-off weekend. Vauxhall takes on Lacombe, Satinwood and Rockyview. |
