It is always a wild card with how baseball provincials pan out, no matter what your ranking. Running into a hot pitcher, nerves or ice cold bats can weigh down even the strongest of teams. The Vauxhall peewee Jets go in as the number-one seed at Tier II community provincials in South Jasper Place this weekend, but are keeping expectations in check. “Out of the six teams, we’ve played three of them and beat all three,” said Rob Doerksen, “But, I don’t want to get too overconfident. I’m hoping we get everything together, be a good weekend and get to that final game.” The schedule on paper favours the Jets to at least get to the playoff round, as both teams in its pool are squads the team 10-runned in Bawlf and Heisler. “We’re sitting pretty good. If we finish first in our pool, we don’t play until noon on the Sunday. It’s a good schedule for the beginning anyhow,” said Doerksen. “It could give the kids a good morale boost going into the semis, but we have to take one game at a time.” |
