The following are selected briefs from the regular Sept. 15 meeting of Vauxhall town council.
Agenda Approval
Council approved the agenda with one addition: item 6d, the 2025 Operating Budget: Actual Year to Date.
Intermunicipal Agreement Taber Region Economic Development Collaboration
Vauxhall council reviewed a potential agreement for the Taber Region Economic Development Collaboration. A copy of the agreement was not in the agenda.
Coun. Shelley Deleeuw noted there had been “a lot of discussion regarding it during their development meeting”. There would be no financial obligation “demanded on us unless we choose to join” a project. For instance, if the Town of Taber was working on something that Vauxhall was interested in joining, then they could under the terms of this agreement.
“Kind of just to give opportunity to all stakeholders, I guess, in the area,” said Deleeuw.
Council passed a motion to adopt the agreement.
Regional Emergency Management Partnership Agreement and Bylaw
Council reviewed some changes to the REM partnership agreement and bylaw. While Vauxhall council had passed the initial bylaw during their regular Aug. 18 meeting, town CAO Cris Burns said that the updates involved some some wording changes.
Some of the changes to the draft version of the new bylaw include:
• Updating the ‘emergency’ definition to read “means a sudden and temporary event that requires prompt coordination of action or special regulation of persons or property to protect the safety, health or welfare of people or to limit damage to property or the environment.”
• Adding section 4C, Council shall “approve budgets with recommendations provided by the committee”
• Updated the wording in section 6g to read The Taber Region Emergency Advisory Committee shall “review and endorse the work plan and budget…” rather than “review and approve the work plan and budget…”.
• Updated the wording in section 7bv to read “authorize major expenditures as required, with approvals from chief elected officials of the impacted parties”.
As council wished to review the changes, no motion was made.
Upcoming Events
The 2025 municipal election will take place on Monday, Oct. 20.
2025 Operating Budget: Actual Year to Date
Council reviewed the 2025 operating budget’s year-to-date expenses. Burns said the item had “came in late”, which was why it was an addition to the agenda. No concerns were reported with it.
Council reviewed the report for information.
