Beet growers celebrated

This year’s top sugar beet producers for the Vauxhall area were announced at the annual sugar beet banquet last week.

1. Pepneck Family — 35.55 t/ac

2. Bernard Stoesz — 34.22 t/ac

3. Pete Albers — 34.04 t/ac

4. Laus Stiekema — 33.79 t/ac

5. Geerligs Farms — 33.49 t/ac

6. Wolosuk Farms — 33.15 t/ac

7. Van Hal Family — 32.65 t/ac

8. Klemen Farms — 32.28 t/ac

9. Harold Unruh — 31.94 t/ac

10. Brudey Farms — 31.50 t/ac

Also during the evening, 20/20 achievements (over 20 tonnes and 20 per cent sugar) were awarded to Harry Wall, Michael Van Dyk, Herb Wall, Odland Farm and Ranch, Harold Unruh, and Geerligs Farms.

Rienk Vanderhoek reigned as last year’s beet king, in what was one of the best years on record for beet production in the region.
