Retlaw 4-H
The Retlaw Prairie 4-H Beef Club is thriving in spite of COVID-19! We held our first meeting on Oct. 5 at the Enchant Hall.
We are glad to have welcomed quite a few new members this year and now have 27 members registered.
This year we have beef, sheep, and horse projects and added a small engine project.
Our leaders this year are Dorthea Mills, Pat Drew, Susan Anhorn, Jodi Lillico, Jackson Wetherelt, Duane Mills, Sebastien Cailiau, Dalyce Brewin, Amanda Malone, Kaitlyn Mills and Brooke Scott.
The horse projects first ride was held on Oct. 31 and the theme was to dress up with their horse.
A few of our members also volunteered at the Halloween Howl and handed out candy to the kids that day.
Our second meeting was held on Nov. 2 at the Enchant Hall and we had a consumer decision-making workshop. We also elected our new officers for the year:
President- Chelsey Mills, vicepresident- Sutten Emelson, treasurer- Lex Cailliau, secretary- Grace Broderson, club reporter- Shelby Lillico, beef photographer- Sienna Howg, sheep photographer- Emery Wetherelt, horse photographer- Merritt Cailliau, small engine photographer- Theresa Cailliau, communications officer- Berkley Emelson, senior club representative- Chase Plumb, intermediate club representative- Torynn Plumb, and junior club representative- Ella Odland.
Our beef weigh-in was held on Nov. 7 at VRP Feedlot by Enchant. There were 11 steers and three heifers. The small engine project’s first meet was Nov. 21.
Last month we also sold Springbank cheese for a fundraiser and it went well. Thank you to everyone who supported us.
In December, our meeting will also be our awards banquet and this year’s banquet is going to be a bit different. Due to COVID-19, we won’t be allowed to invite extended family, and trophy and award donors. We will not be serving a meal but will have a little Christmas get together with treat bags for all the members.
We are looking for community service projects for our club to do. If you have a project that we can help with please contact our General Leader, Dorthea Mills at 403-894-8322.
