Town of Vauxhall council meeting briefs from May 21

The following are select briefs from the Town of Vauxhall Council Meeting that was held on May 21, 2024.

Bill 20 Municipal Affairs Statutes Amended Act

Council discussed directing Administration to send a letter to Premier Danielle Smith that recommends the Government of Alberta rescind Bill 20, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendments Act. Deputy Mayor Forchuk made the motion, which was carried.

Active Communities Initiative Grant

Council discussed issuing a letter of support to the Vauxhall Curling Association in support of their application for the Active Communities Initiative Grant. Councilor Deleeuw made the motion, which was carried.

Letter – M.D. of Taber – 2024 Operations Grants for Recreation

Council discussed a letter sent to them from the M.D. of Taber informing them of a motion, which was made by Councilor Merrill Harris, at a Council meeting they held on May 14, to approve 2024 Operational Grants for Recreational Boards, Towns, and Villages. The grants, the letter said, will be distributed in the following amounts:

Enchant Recreation Board – $48,331.71

Hays Recreation Board – $47,465.95

Grassy Lake Recreation Board – $51,405.64

Town of Taber – $203,020.43

Town of Vauxhall – $117,743.19

Village of Barnwell – $13,852.14

The motion also approved 2024 Recreation Grant amounts as per the Inter-Municipal Collaboration Framework agreements:

Town of Vauxhall – $3,156.81

Village of Barnwell – $13,306.86

Councilor Zacharias made a motion to accept the letter as information and the motion was carried.
