With Small Business Week being celebrated, the Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce outlined some of the services it provides to members and business operators in the region.
“Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce’s directory of businesses are listed on our website,” said Shelley Mehlhaff, VDCC president. “We encourage all local businesses to become members.”
Some benefits of VDCC membership include listing on the VDCC website with your logo; social media coverage; promotion of your events in the VDCC newsletter; access to the Chamber Plan, most popular benefit plan in Canada; and free advertising.
Various events and initiatives are sponsored by the VDCC throughout the year.
“The VDCC plays a vital role in promoting and supporting the local business community through various initiatives and events,” said Mehlhaff. “Here’s an overview of what the chamber has to offer: The VDCC actively engages local businesses, fostering collaboration and community spirit. By serving as a hub for networking and resources, the chamber helps businesses thrive and connect with one another.”
Canada Day Pancake Breakfast: Each year, the VDCC hosts a pancake breakfast in celebration of Canada Day. This event is a collaborative effort with local volunteers and businesses, creating a festive atmosphere that strengthens community ties.
Snowflake Frolic: On December 5, the VDCC organizes the Snowflake Frolic, promoting a shop-local initiative through a fun Bingo game. Shoppers are encouraged to visit participating businesses to collect stamps, with prizes awarded for completed cards. The evening features late-night shopping, hot chocolate, snacks, and games, enhancing the holiday shopping experience while supporting local enterprises.
Business and Volunteer of the Year Awards: Scheduled for November 23, this annual event recognizes outstanding contributions from local businesses and volunteers. Hosted by the VDCC and the Vauxhall Ag Society, the evening includes a delicious dinner, entertainment, and the presentation of awards, celebrating the hard work and dedication within the community.
Scholarship Award: Of $500 to one Grade 12 student each year.
The VDCC is also involved in the promotion of their Shop Local Campaign.
“During the Snowflake Frolic, the VDCC kicks off a shop-local program that runs until Christmas,” said Mehlhaff. “Customers making purchases of $25 or more at participating stores receive ballots for a chance to win gift cards, further incentivizing local shopping and supporting the economy.”
Educating members is also one of the mandates of the VDCC.
“The VDCC would be willing to arrange and facilitate courses or informational evenings that members require or express interest in,” said Mehlhaff.
The VDCC is a vital link for area business and defends their interests in the wider community.
“Through these events and initiatives, the Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce plays a crucial role in fostering a vibrant local business community, encouraging residents to shop locally, and celebrating the achievements of its members,” said Mehlhaff. “By participating in chamber events, businesses not only gain exposure but also contribute to a thriving economic landscape.”
