On Saturday, June 7, there will be a come and go gathering honouring former Bow River MP Martin Shields at the CPR Engineer’s House in Brooks (50 Evergreen Park Close) from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Shields was first elected as MP in 2015 for the Conservative Party of Canada, and was subsequently re-elected in the 2019 and 2021 elections. He chose not to run again in the 2025 election at the conclusion of his term and was succeeded by MP David Bexte.
Prior to his career in federal politics, Shields served as mayor of the City of Brooks after being elected in 2007, and was re-elected to that position in 2010 and 2013.
Shields also served as a teacher and administrator for 30 years, as well as a part-time university instructor for 20 years.
