Vauxhall Community Church in Vauxhall will be the site of a Kub Kar Rally on March 22.
David Pepneck, who organizes and helps distribute the purchasable car kits to the kids at Vauxhall Elementary School who want to participate, said that the Kub Car rally is a chance for kids of Vauxhall to show off their creativity in making a gravity-powered car.
“The kids are encouraged to compete in both speed and creativity of design,” said Pepneck.
Pepneck also said the Kub Kar Rally, which is planned by the Community Church’s Outreach Committee, is a way to invite the community into Vauxhall Community Church to have a family fun event. This is the third year in a row the program has been revived, Pepneck noted, as the original races were in the ‘70s as part of the Boy Brigades Program.
“This year’s rally,” Pepneck said, “will kick off with the weigh-in at 1:30 p.m., and that will be followed with the races starting anywhere between 2 and 2:20 p.m., and should end by 4 p.m. depending on the number of racers entered, and there will also be refreshments available on site.”
Pepneck added that there will be prizes for best looking cars in different age categories, and prizes for the fastest cars; and that those who want to get involved and not race can help a kid build a car, volunteer to help with weigh-ins, or other small tasks to keep the event running smoothly. Even those who do not make a car and are just interested in seeing how the event works are welcome to attend, Pepneck says.
“The excitement of the kids watching their creations speed down the track is entertainment,” said Pepneck. “The event is a great way to bring the community together for a kid-oriented afternoon.”
