FCSS is partnering with the Youth Do Crew to hold the third annual Penny Carnival event for all ages on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vauxhall Community Hall.
Family Support Worker Kim Forchuk and Outreach Support Worker Anita Boldt said that the Penny Carnival is all about creating a space where families can connect, have fun, and enjoy time together in a welcoming, community-focused environment; and it’s also a meaningful way for the Do Crew Jr./Sr. youth to give back by planning and hosting an event that brings joy to others.
The event, Forchuk and Boldt also said, is free for everyone to attend and enjoy the work that the Do Crew Jr./Sr. youth will be doing to run a variety of carnival-style games with fun prizes to be won; which includes the Food Bank Cereal Box Domino event at 2:30 p.m. Thanks to the continued support of local businesses and sponsors, Boldt and Forchuk stated, there will also be a free hot dog lunch, activities for all ages- including seniors, and prize options for different age groups, making it an inclusive event for all ages.
“The Penny Carnival features a range of classic and creative games for all ages, small prizes, and plenty of treats,” said Forchuk. “It’s designed to feel like a traditional carnival experience, with a focus on fun, laughter, and simple activities that families can enjoy together. The Penny Carnival not only offers a fun and accessible activity for families, but it also empowers youth to take on leadership roles and see the impact they can have in their community. It helps build confidence and encourages volunteerism. It also contributes to a stronger sense of belonging for everyone involved.”
Forchuk and Boldt said that the best way for people to get involved is to come out and enjoy the day; but they also welcome community members and businesses supporting the event by contributing prize donations and they also welcome youth aged 11–18 volunteering or joining the Do Crew Jr./Sr. They are encouraged to connect with the Do Crew at (403) 332-0629 or youthdocrew@fcss.ca.
“FCSS is proud to support the Penny Carnival as it highlights the creativity, leadership, and initiative of local youth,” said Forchuk. “Events like this provide young people with hands-on opportunities to plan, collaborate, and give back, while also strengthening connections within the community. It’s rewarding to see their efforts come together in such a positive and inclusive way.”
