The following are selected briefs from the regular June 15 Vauxhall Town Council meeting
CAO report
Cris Bruns gave a verbal CAO report.
• Sewer lines were completed for the new ball building and curling rink.
• The town’s new recycling program will start in October, which features a blue bin for alley pickup and “quite a big list of things that can go in it.” When asked how it worked, Burns said the contractor was bringing in a recycling truck. Mayor Kimberly Cawley said she thought people would be “happy with that” option.
• The town’s new bylaw officer started in June.
Canada Day Poster
Council viewed the Canada Day event poster for information. Assistant CAO and town manager Mindy Dunphy noted that the poster had the parade starting at 11 a.m., when it actually started at 10 a.m. The Pancake breakfast at the Vauxhall community Hall would run from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., and the parade would start at 10 a.m.
Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce Letter
The VDCC had sent out a letter about a new community tourism initiative they’re planning for the local campground. With it, they would encourage visitors to “stay and play”, with guests staying more than three nights at the campground receiving a coupon booklet with special offers from participating businesses and attractions, and community partners in the area. They’re looking for businesses to consider donating either a complementary item voucher or a percentage off a purchase. Council passed a motion to donate a family swim pass.
