A 30-plus year agreement with the Town of Vauxhall has officially been updated.

During their regular Aug. 17 meeting, Vauxhall town council reviewed an updated Oldman River Regional Services Commission member services agreement. The updated agreement had been ratified by ORRSC’s board of directors on June 4, 2026, and they have requested that council review and return executed copies of the agreement to ORRSC, with signed copies being provided once all parties have executed the agreement.

Town CAO Cris Burns provided an AI-generated document summarizing the changes to council, and said the changes made “a lot of sense”. According to the memo, the new agreement replaced one that was created in 1994.

“They’re 32 years apart. This one is quite modernized, it’s accurate and current,” said Burns. “

According to the memo document, the changes included:

• Adding provisions for Indemnification, Confidentially, Access to Information/Privacy Laws, Force Majeure, and Insurance Requirements

• Adding rules on staff supervisions and prohibiting individual municipal officials and politicians from giving operational direction directly to staff

• Including regional quasi-judicial board services under service scope

• Linking  annual fee adjustments to the published Alberta Consumer Price Index

• Requiring a four-step process for dispute resolution

Council passed a motion to adopt the agreement.
