With the fall season comes influenza season, and Primary Care Alberta is encouraging residents to get immunized.

“Getting immunized against influenza, respiratory syncytial virus and COVID-19 is one of several important steps Albertans can take to prevent the spread of illness,” said PCA. “Vaccines are safe and effective.”

Starting Oct. 26, appointments are available through PCA public health clinics and participating pharmacies. Albertans are encouraged to visit primarycarealberta.ca/getimmunized to learn what immunizations are right for them, as the best way to book their appointments will depend on their age and what immunizations they require.

In addition to getting immunized, residents are encouraged to reduce the spread of illness by staying home when feeling sick, avoiding close contact with people who are ill when possible and washing hands frequently or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

They are also asked to cover coughs and sneezes, cleaning their hands shortly afterwards and avoiding touching their eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. Cleaning and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, especially when someone is sick, is also vital.

Those in crowded indoor spaces are also encouraged to wear a well-fitting face mask to reduce the likelihood of getting sick or spreading illness.

Albertans can also speak to their primary health-care provider if you have questions about immunization.
