Coaldale Panthers athlete signed to Kodiaks women’s volleyball team

ocal volleyball player Kourtney Serfas, of Turin, Alta., will be taking her skills to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball team this fall.

The 5’10” outside hitter currently plays for the U18 team for the Panthers Volleyball Club near Coaldale. After graduating from Vauxhall High School this spring, Serfas is headed to Lethbridge College to study in the college’s Bachelor of Nursing program, and join the Kodiaks. Serfas is the co-captain of the Panther Volleyball Club’s U18 team this year and recently won the “best teammate of the season award” after being nominated by her teammates

Serfas added that this sense of team camaraderie made Serfas’s decision, “extremely easy.” 

“I chose the Kodiaks because of the competitive atmosphere and their willingness to be their best. Every practice I’ve participated in has inspired me to be better and I think it’s so cool that lots of the older girls have made me feel so included and a part of their team already.”

The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team recently wrapped up the 2022-2023 season with the highest finish in program history at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championships in March where they finished fourth in the league. With program building for the 2023 season well underway, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball team is looking to continue the 2022-2023 season’s momentum by further developing talented athletes, such as Serfas.

Panther President and Coach, Chris Perry, said the Panthers volleyball club has benefitted from Serfas’ dedication and leadership since the U15 club season. 

“Kourtney is a very skilled volleyball athlete. She works hard and always gives it her all. She is a true six position play thriving both offensively and defensively. We are thrilled she was recruited to the Lethbridge Kodiaks and will be excited to watch her play at the next level. (We are) wishing her all the best, and will be cheering her on next year for the Kodiaks!” 

Serfas added she has been impacted and encouraged by witnessing the success of Panther Volleyball Club alumni who have played for the Kodiaks program. 

“I want to inspire other young volleyball players around southern Alberta like they have inspired me,” she said.
