The following are selected briefs from the regular Nov. 17 meeting of Vauxhall town council.
MPE Delegation
A representative from MPE presented a report on an Infrastructure Master Plan for the Town of Vauxhall. The report was made possible through an Alberta Community Partnership Grant, and was fully funded by the province. Vauxhall had acted as the lead on the project, with the Municipal District of Taber acting in a supporting role due to their interested in Vauxhall infrastructure for future rural development opportunities.
The IMP was finalized earlier this year, and focuses on the town’s potable water system, wastewater system, stormwater system, and the transportation network, including recommendations for each system.
Streetlights
Mayor Kimberley Cawley had heard from some residents who were concerned about darker streets in town and had asked about installing additional lights. CAO Cris Burns said Fortis had changed all the streetlights to LEDs, to reduce lighting pollution. While lights will be added as the town develops, according to Fortis, the lights are “sufficient”. The town can install options such as solar LED lights, which had been installed on walking paths, but they don’t touch the electrical lines, which is Fortis’ jurisdiction.
ACP Wastewater Feasibility Study
Council passed a motion to support the submission of a 2025/2026 Alberta Community Partnership grant application in support of the Regional Wastewater Treatment Feasibility Study project, and directed administration to contact the M.D. of Taber for support.
If approved, Vauxhall would not need to match the financial contribution, but the town would manage the grant project and related compliance requirements.
Meetings and Events
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 22, 2025.
