The following are selected briefs from the M.D. of Taber Council Meeting that took place on May 9, 2023.
Oldman River Arts Club Presentation
Tanya Sprong, Vice-President of the Oldman River Arts Club, spoke to Council about the Oldman River Arts Club. The club, Sprong said, is designed to focus on presenting and doing event-based art within the M.D. of Taber with the belief that there’s art and artists everywhere. Sprong stated that the Oldman River Arts Club just formed in February and their first event, which is in June, is to play host to the Southern Zone Art Show that will be held on June 10-11, 2023 at Legion Hall in Taber. Sprong said that for more information about the event or for those who are interested in participating, information is available on the Oldman River Arts Club’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/OldmanRAC. Councilor Turcato made the motion to accept the Oldman River Arts Club presentation for information and the motion was passed unanimously.
Honoring World Family Doctor Day
Council discussed that they were definitely in support of bringing attention to bringing family doctors to the rural setting and using the M.D. of Taber social media sites to bring attention to the issue. They also proclaimed World Family Doctor Day to be May 19, 2023.
Council shared that on May 17, 2023, is the M.D. of Taber’s Safety Day at the Operation Maintenance Building from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 18, 2023 at 7 p.m. is the support and information session for victims and survivors of crime at Taber Public Library. May 25-28, 2013 is the FCM Conference in Toronto. June 5, 2023 is the joint meeting with Taber and District Chamber of Commerce in the Town of Taber. June 6, 2023 is the Low German Service Provider Conference at Lethbridge College from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 21, 2023 is the M.D. staff summer barbecue at the M.D. Park. May 26, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the Taber Special Needs Barbecue celebrating Community Disability Service Workers Appreciation Week. May 26, 2023 at 5 p.m. is the W.R. Meyers cap and gown ceremony. June 2, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. is the Taber Mennonite School program banquet and graduation ceremony. June 5, 2023 at noon is when a Land Use Pylon Workshop will happen in the Race Room. June 6, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. is when a joint meeting with the Town of Vauxhall and Alberta Health Services will happen at the Vauxhall Fire Hall. June 17, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. is the grand opening of the Coaldale Civic Square. July 1, 2023 is the Vauxhall Canada Day Parade. On August 1, 2023, the RMA will be visiting the M.D. of Taber Administration Building for an 11:30 P.M. lunch. The Council moved to accept all the upcoming events.
Community Disability Service Workers Appreciation Week
Councilor Turcato gave a motion that the M.D. of Taber Council declare May 22nd to May 28th,2023 Community Disability Service Workers Association Week. The motion was unanimously carried.
