As work continues on updating the Vauxhall Hall kitchen, the Vauxhall Community Centre Advisory Committee was hoping to put some of the money in the bank towards equipment needed.

At council’s regular meeting held on March 1, the request was brought forward to purchase kitchen dish carts, coolers, dishes, pots/pans, utensils and whatever else they would need within the kitchen.

“We’d like approval from council to spend up to $20,000. We are meeting with Adora to do the kitchen. We need permanent storage for the dishes so we need to build the kitchen cabinets accordingly,” explained Coun. Kim Cawley, who also sits on the committee. “I think we still have around $60,000 after the contractor’s quote.”

Administration confirmed there was just over $50,000 left in funds.

Cawley further explained to council all of the equipment that was already in the kitchen would not be thrown away and the purchase would just be to complete the kitchen.

“We’d like to purchase enough dishes to meet capacity. If we see 400 people, we’d like 400 dinner plates, that sort of thing. And then to replace anything that is missing or not there anymore so it’s a completed kitchen and fully functional when it is ready to use,” she stated. “Everything that is there that is still usable will be staying. We’re trying to be as cost-efficient as we can.”

A motion to authorize the expenditure of the Vauxhall Community Centre Advisory Committee up to $20,000 of the hall kitchen funds for purchases related to kitchen dish carts, coolers, dishes, pots/pans and utensils was carried.
