The first round of Donation Request Policy requests have come into the Municipal District of Taber council.

As of late February, the M.D. has received eight requests and council was able to review them during their regular meeting on Feb. 22. Requests came from Eagle Spirit Nest Community Association $1,500 (expenses for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21), Taber and District Museum $7,500 (operational costs), Oldman Watershed Council $3,371.31 (education, restoration, and legacy programming), Taber Shooting Foundation $5,000 in-kind (loading and trucking costs), Taber and District Chamber of Commerce $21,000 (wages, parade, Cornfest, maintaining tables/chairs for community rentals and chamber membership), Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce $6,000 (wages, shortfall in budget due to COVID-19), while the Taber Motorcycle Association and Vauxhall Legion were new applicants.

Vauxhall Legion requested funding for operational costs and in the M.D. had previously donated $700 in 2017 and 2018. No amount was attached from a Vauxhall Legion perspective for the new application. Within the policy, the maximum amount that can be given to most organizations is $5,000, though the M.D. pays for more in terms of both chamber of commerce. Administration and Committee of the Whole suggested each organization receive the amount they asked for, except for the museum, which they recommended $5,000.
