Meeting briefs for the Feb. 13 Town of Vauxhall municipal council

This is a selection of briefs from the Feb. 13 Vauxhall municipal council meeting.

R.C.M.P. December Report.

RCMP calls for service- Taber/Vauxhall detachment area 150, Town of Vauxhall 6. Traffic (alcohol/drug)- impaired driving, 24 and 30-day suspensions, immediate roadside suspensions 0. Non-criminal- 9-1-1 hangups in Vauxhall 0, detachment area criminal record check 24, detachment area fingerprints (general public) 4. Total violation tickets in Vauxhall 0, total violation tickets in Taber detachment area 11, ITU (Lethbridge/Redcliff) violation tickets 5, total patrols in Vauxhall 44. Persons crime increase by 23 per cent, property crime went up 3 per cent, and total Criminal Code offences saw a 28 per cent decrease when compared to January to December of 2021. There was increases in break and enters by 92 per cent with 12 more instances, theft of motor vehicles decrease with 2 fewer instances, and theft under $5,000 decrease by 3 per cent with 1 fewer incidents.

Bylaw No. 991-23 The Business and Tourism Advisory

The Vauxhall council passed a motion to adjust this bylaw to include ‘and business owners’ to the requirements for an individual to sit on the tourism advisory committee. Which now reads “residents and business owners of the Town of Vauxhall”. Previously only residents of Vauxhall were allowed to sit on this committee.

Cheque Listing for the month of January 2023

The council approved the total check listing of $190,841.38 for the month of January.

2023 Capital Budget

The capital budget was approved by counsel which included a pick up truck, hot seat pressure washer, two mowers, oil recycling containment, a C-Can, pool boiler, repairs on 2nd and 3rd Avenue, 9th Street road work, and power to the cemetery.

Library Board Member Resignation

As part of Vauxhall’s bylaw the council received a letter of resignation from Pat Coad who wishes to resign from being a member of the library board. The council passed a motion to accept this letter of resignation.

JEDC – Long Table Dinner Sponsor

The Vauxhall Council decided to sponsor the Joint Economic Development Conference at a bronze level for $500 to show their support, and have that their logo on the keepsake lanyard. The council also discussed table tickets for all of their members, once the prices of those tickets were made available.

Bylaw No. 990-23 Water and Sewer Bylaw

During the Vauxhall Council special meeting on Jan. 17 counsel passed all three readings, and approved the adjustments to this bylaw to increase the rate by $2 across all options.
