Town of Vauxhall Council Oct. 23 briefs

The following are select briefs from the Town of Vauxhall Council meeting that took place on October 23.

Organizational Meeting

During the organizational meeting, Deputy Mayor Kim Cawley was appointed to the role of Mayor. Councillor Marilyn Forchuk and outgoing Mayor Ray Coad were nominated for Deputy Mayor, and Councillor Forchuk was elected Deputy Mayor by a Council vote of 4-3.

External Minutes

A motion was made to accept the Vauxhall Regional Fire Authority financial summary for the 2024 budget and the three-year operating plan as presented. The motion was approved unanimously.

Vauxhall Public Library Budget

Council briefly discussed Vauxhall Public Library’s budget and funding for 2024 before ultimately making a motion to move it to budget that was approved unanimously.

New Appointment to Vauxhall Public Library Board

Council briefly discussed appointing Francisco Sunig to the Vauxhall Public Library Board before making a motion to do so that was approved unanimously.

Resignation of Councillor Plumtree

Councillor Margaret Plumtree announced to Council that after serving on Vauxhall Town Council for the last 10 years, she was resigning from Council. Plumtree thanked everyone for the years she had served, shared copies of a resignation letter with Council, and said that it was time for her to go in a new direction. Newly-appointed Mayor Cawley thanked Councillor Plumtree for her service and told her that she was more than just a councillor, that she was definitely a fantastic volunteer and helped in a lot of areas to keep all kinds of things going. On Council’s behalf, Cawley expressed appreciation to Plumtree for the time and effort spent in Vauxhall on Council and as a community member.
