Vauxhall has adopted a new operating budget for 2026.
During their regular April 20 meeting, Vauxhall town council reviewed the proposed operating budget for 2026-2029.
Highlights from the budget include:
• Property tax revenues of $1,561,042
• $415,568 in Operating Grants
• Public Safety Services costing $308,261, including $90,197 for policing
• Operational Services revenues of $1,289,653
Total net operating revenue for the town would be $3,664,663. Town CFO Clark Holt said he did not have “any concerns about any one particular department”, and everything looked good.
Holt said that in addition to collecting property taxes, they would also be collecting requisitions for education, seniors, and the RCMP, the latter which is a new requisition the province is allowing them to collect as a mill on their property taxes.
“If someone looks closely on the statement they get from the town, there’ll be taxes for Vauxhall, taxes for schools, taxes for seniors, and now taxes for RCMP. We have zero control over that number,” said Holt. “That’s instead of absorbing it in our expenses.”
“Next year, we’ll know just how much people’s taxes went up because of policing.”
About five years ago, Vauxhall started paying for policing. However, changes in the policing funding model means that the town will be paying an increasing amount each year until 2030-31.
In addition to policing, requisitions for education and seniors will be going up.
Council passed a motion to adopt the 2026-29 Operating Budget.
