MD of Taber welcomes Rural Municipalities of Alberta leadership

On August 17, the MD of Taber was pleased to host representatives from the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) for a productive discussion on key issues affecting rural municipalities across Alberta.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss several important advocacy priorities, including:

– Assessment model review update

– Uncollected linear oil and gas property taxes and associated provincial mitigation measures moving forward

– Updates regarding municipal police services and the police funding model

In addition to advocacy discussions, representatives learned more about the MD of Taber’s role as an agricultural powerhouse within southern Alberta and across the province. The conversation highlighted the ingenuity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of MD residents and businesses that continue to drive economic growth and strengthen our communities.

The day concluded with Reeve Miyanaga and Councillor Turcato providing a tour of Phase 1 of the Horsefly Regional Emergency Spillway Project and one of the MD’s RenuWell sites, showcasing local initiatives focused on infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability.

The MD of Taber was honoured to welcome Kelly Christman (Director, District 1, Rural Municipalities of Alberta and Deputy Reeve, County of Newell), Kara Westerlund (President, Rural Municipalities of Alberta and Councillor, Brazeau County), Duane Gladden (Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Rural Municipalities of Alberta) and Lindsay Norrie (Member Engagement and Outreach Manager, Rural Municipalities of Alberta).

MD of Taber host regional tour with dignitaries

 On Saturday, August 15, the MD of Taber was pleased to host a regional tour for government leaders, municipal partners, business representatives, and community stakeholders, highlighting the people, businesses, innovation, and investments that continue to drive the prosperity and resilience of our region.

Guests gained firsthand insight into the opportunities that make the Taber Region a thriving place to invest, work, and grow, while learning more about the agricultural excellence, entrepreneurial spirit, and collaborative partnerships that contribute to our success.

The day’s activities concluded with Taber’s Table, a spectacular long-table dining experience organized through regional partnership efforts and featuring a curated menu crafted by local chefs using fresh ingredients sourced from Taber and area growers, vendors, and producers. The event was a fitting celebration of the people, products, and partnerships that make the Taber Region’s role as a key part of Canada’s Premier Food Corridor.

We were honoured to welcome elected officials and community leaders from across the region, including Senator Daryl Fridhandler; Member of Parliament David Bexte; Minister of Environment and Protected Areas Grant Hunter; Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services Nathan Neudorf; Michele Evans, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Alberta Region at Prairies Economic Development Canada; City of Lethbridge- City Hall Mayor Blaine Hyggen; Town of Taber Mayor Andrew Prokop, Councillor Joanne Sorensen, and Councillor Naomi Wiebe; Town of Vauxhall Mayor Kim Cawley and Councillor Shelley DeLeeuw; Village of Barnwell Mayor Missy Foster; MD of Taber Reeve Tamara Miyanaga, Deputy Reeve Layne Johnson, Councillor John Turcato, and Councillor Ernie Peters; along with representatives from the Alberta Grazing Leaseholders Association and Serecon.
