Nominations for the Vauxhall and District Volunteer and Business of the Year awards will be open until Nov. 1.

“The nominations are based on the contributions individuals and businesses have made to the Vauxhall and District community,” explained Brandi Doerksen, secretary and social media manager of the Vauxhall Ag Society. “We are looking for examples of dedication, commitment, leadership, innovation, service, and going above and beyond for the community.”

Nomination forms are available via https://www.vauxhallagsociety.com/resources or vauxhallag@gmail.com.

“We encourage people to think about the volunteers and businesses in our community who consistently go above and beyond and nominate someone who deserves to be recognized,” said Doerksen.

Vauxhall Agricultural Society will celebrate the presentation of the awards at the Vauxhall Ag Society Rodeo Grounds Multipurpose Building on Saturday, Nov. 21, that will include the annual Ribfest event.

“The event provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the people and businesses that contribute so much to our community,” Doersken explained. “A lot of the work that happens in a small community is done behind the scenes, and we wanted to create an opportunity to shine a light on those contributions. The awards celebrate the people who give their time, skills, energy, and passion to make our community a better place. Volunteer contributions can take many forms, from supporting local organizations and events to helping neighbours, leading community initiatives, or quietly giving their time behind the scenes.”

There is a rib supper attached to the event, and that will be provided by Greta’s Kitchen while Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce will operate the bar, and VDF Entertainment will provide entertainment and a dance.

“We encourage people to come out and support the event, whether that’s by nominating someone, purchasing a ticket, or simply helping us celebrate the people and businesses that make Vauxhall and District such a great community,” said Doerksen. “It’s also an exciting opportunity to see the new Multipurpose Building at the Rodeo Grounds and bring the community together for a fun evening of good food, entertainment, and recognition. There are so many people who contribute to our community in different ways and through different organizations, and we feel it is important to recognize them. A lot of the time, these people and businesses aren’t doing what they do for recognition or a pat on the back. They’re doing it because they see a need, want to be involved, and want to make their community a better place. For many volunteers, that involvement is also generational. Their grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, or other family members may have volunteered for years, and they are continuing that tradition and passing the torch to the next generation. We also hope the awards will help people learn more about what is happening in our community. There are so many organizations, events, projects, and individuals doing great things that people may not always know about, and this is an opportunity to celebrate those contributions and perhaps introduce people to something new.”
