M.D. council approves event, organization funds

During a recent M.D. of Taber Council meeting, Administration presented Council with a Request for Decision regarding Community Organizations, Programs, Events and Activities Donation Request Applications.

Council first reviewed the request for $5,000 from the Barnwell 55 Plus Club for operating expenses and then they reviewed the request for $3,000 from the Canadian Classic Rodeo Association for the Southwest Senior Rodeo.

Councillor Reynolds made a motion that the M.D. of Taber approve a $5,000 donation to the Barnwell 55 Plus Club towards their operating expenses in response to their application to the M.D. of Taber Donations and Community Organizations, Programs, Events and Activities policy.

Deputy Reeve DeGroot then made a motion that M.D. of Taber approve a $3,000 donation to the Canadian Classic Rodeo Association towards their Southwest Senior Rodeo in response to their application to the M.D. of Taber Donations and Community Organizations, Programs, Events and Activities policy.

Bryce Surina, Director of Operations for the M.D. of Taber, then presented Council with a Request For Decision regarding a donation request from the Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce for $6,000 that is intended to go towards operating expenses. Surina stated that the amount is ‘similar to what the Chamber has received in previous years,.’

Deputy Reeve DeGroot then made a motion that M.D. of Taber approve a $6,600 donation to the Vauxhall and District Chamber of Commerce towards operating expenses in response to their application to the M.D. of Taber Donations and Community Organizations, Programs, Events and Activities policy. Reeve Miyanaga also clarified that the Vauxhall Chamber of Commerce received $6,600 in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Reeve Miyanaga then shared information about a request for $5,000 from the Taber Spring Classic Rodeo for their rodeo event. Deputy Reeve DeGroot then made a motion that M.D. of Taber approve a $5,000 donation to the Taber Spring Classic Rodeo towards operating expenses in response to their application to the M.D. of Taber Donations and Community Organizations, Programs, Events and Activities policy. The motion was carried.
