It was a two-game weekend for the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball Jets this past weekend. Saturday saw the team take the field out on the road to take on Okotoks Dawgs Red.

Game one saw the Jets fall back early, and they were never able to fully recover as they lost 11-6. Easton Kitura had a big day at the plate with a home run and four RBI, Gerrit Vanderwal hit a double, and Kaleb Bozek, Will Zielinski, Hudson Nikkel, and Tanner Morris all had a single. Graham Thiessen took the ball to start for VAB and went three innings with three strikeouts. The starter saw six runs come home (five earned) on eight hits and a walk. Aiden Sloan pitched an inning where he walked two and allowed an earned run. Carter Bevans was the next man on the mound and pitched two strikeouts while collecting a pair of strikeouts. Three unearned runs scored on two hits and two walks. Jacob Flach pitched the next inning with a strikeout and one earned run on a walk and a hit. Charlie McMillan finished the game, going one inning with one hit and one walk allowed.

In the second game, a rough bottom of the seventh inning with a few errors led to a 3-2 loss. Nikkel and Morris each had a double while Zielinski and Vanderwal had singles.

Next up for the Jets is the Baseball Canada regional qualifiers for the Road to Okotoks and the chance to lift the Morneau Cup. The Jets start the qualifiers at home on Thursday with a 9 a.m. matchup against the Okotoks Dawgs (White). Later that day, they take on Home Run Academy at 5:15 p.m. On May 29, the Jets shift to Lethbridge at Spitz Stadium to take on the Calgary Bucks at 2:30 p.m. Final game of the round-robin goes on Saturday at Spitz Stadium against Sylvan Lake Gulls. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. Quarter finals begin later that night at 5:30 p.m.

Vauxhall Spurs

The Spurs were also back on the field this weekend as they had a pair of games against the Fort Macleod Royals. Heading to Fort Macleod on Sunday, the Spurs started off strong with a 14-4 win. Roman Pavka had two hits, including a home run; Roan Bosch and Ryley Jensen each had three hits, and Cayden Fair notched two base hits. Looking to make it a 2-0 weekend, the teams hit the field again on Sunday. The Spurs once again would jump to an early lead, and despite pushback from the Royals, Vauxhall would take an 8-4 win. Cummins and Bosch each had two hits, including a double; Pavka hit a double, and McLaughlin and Fehr each notched one hit. Fontaine was back on the mound as the starter and went three solid innings with a pair of strikeouts. Three runs (one earned) would score on four hits and a walk.
