The Village of Barnwell’s event of the summer, Barnwell Days, returns on July 17-18. The two-day celebration, a summer tradition that draws residents and visitors alike, promises a full slate of family activities, friendly competition and community connection.

The festivities start Friday, July 17 with softball games at the Barnwell School ball diamond at 5 p.m. As the evening cools down, friends and families can ready their blankets for an outdoor screening of How to Train Your Dragon at the school at 7 p.m., while those looking to stay active can take part in drop-in volleyball in the school gym, open to ages 10 and up, also at 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 18 kicks off early with the two-kilometre and five-kilometre fun run, followed by a community breakfast at Willow Park – a chance for neighbours, families and friends to catch up over a warm plate before the day’s main events.

The Barnwell parade remains a highlight of the weekend, and organizers are encouraging everyone to join in. Residents are invited to decorate a float, a bike or even a horse and take part in the procession through the village.

The afternoon offers something for everyone, a pickleball tournament, carnival games and family activities for the little ones, and teen challenge activities for older kids. Food vendors will be on hand serving carnival favourites and shaved ice.

As evening approaches, the community will gather for a family dance, and the Village of Barnwell council will treat residents to free ice cream. The weekend wraps up the way it always does – with fireworks lighting up the sky at dusk.
